What is a Colorpalooza?
Take tons of color in powder form and combine it with a palooza, a crazy and exciting party for anyone who is willing to leave looking like an explosion of color. Our Colorpalooza 2012 tour is about to begin and we will be bringing the fun and excitement to cities around the globe.
How can I participate?
The first part of Colorpalooza is a fun and exciting 5K where every kilometer you will go through one of our Color Stations. Each station has a different color so that by the end you look like a rainbow. The finish line however is really just the beginning of the fun. At our finish festival you will find great food, good music, Color exhibitions, and other color related activities. Every 20 minutes every person at Colorpalooza will take part in a color throw where everyone throws color into the air to make the most beautiful color display that you have ever seen. For those who aren’t interested in running you can come and watch for free or can purchase our spectator package which comes with a meal, two bags of Color and a Colorpalooza T-Shirt.
Can anyone come?
Colorpalooza is an event for people of all ages. So bring your friends, your family, or a random stranger. We don’t care as long as you are having fun.
Is the run timed?
The 5K is about having fun and not about setting a new personal record. No one is timed and it is a non-competitive event.
What is this strange powder you keep talking about?
The powder is 100% food grade cornstarch and is 100% safe to eat (although it doesn’t taste so great).
Where did this idea come from?
In India there is an amazing festival called the Holi festival which is a spring festival celebrated by Hindus. Also called the Festival of Colours, it celebrates many things such as the beginning of a new season and the end of the dreary winter. Why was this an inspiration to us? The Holi Festival “lowers the strictness of social norms, which includes gaps between age, gender, status, and caste. Together, the rich and poor, women and men, enjoy each other’s presence on this joyous day. No one expects polite behavior and as a result, the atmosphere is filled with excitement, fun and joy.” Check out this amazing video (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aYmK3RWG7a4) by Variable, an amazing production in New York City, to see what the Festival of Colours looks like. Trust us when we say it is worth it. Do any of the proceeds benefit a charity?
Yes. We make a donation for a specific charity from the proceeds of each event.
Can I bring my kids? Do I have to pay for them?
All children under 5 are free with an adult. If they want to take part in the run they can be in a stroller or can run with you.
Can I bring my dog?
Sorry as much as we love animals, pets are not allowed during this event.
Can I dress up in a crazy outfit?
Of course! We love people who dress up for Colorpalooza. Just remember that it’s a family-friendly event.
What do I get for registering?
For registering for the 5K you will get a Colorpalooza T-Shirt, a packet of our special Color, a racing bib, and a commemorative photo by yellowpix.com.
Can I get a refund?
Unfortunately because of the nature of the event and the preparation required to put it on we do not offer refunds. The event will happen rain or shine. If the event will be temporarily postponed we will notify participants through our Facebook page and via email.
Can I transfer my registration?
Yes you can transfer your registration to another person.
Do I have to wear white?
You don’t have to do anything you don’t want to at Colorpalooza but the more white you wear the better the color will look on you after the race. The runner shirt provided for participants in the 5K will be white.
How does packet pickup work? What the heck is packet pickup?
Packet pickup is where participants in the 5K portion of the event go and pick up the packet with their racing bib, t-shirt and other items. Packet pickup times will be posted on each location’s main page.
Can someone else pick up my packet?
You bet. When you register you will receive a ticket with a bar code and QR Code (a square bar code). Forward this email on to the person you want to pick up your packet and they will be able to get it for you.
Will the color stain my clothes?
The color washes out of most items but it really depends on how much color you get on yourself. Some people want to keep the color in their clothes which you can do by spraying your shirt with vinegar and then ironing it. However if you don’t want the color to stay in your clothes then wash it as soon as possible. We would still suggest wearing something you don’t mind staining.
What about my car?
Clean off at our cleaning station before you leave and then lay down some garbage bags in your car so that you protect your car as best as possible. You can also bring a change of clothes if you want to be sure it won’t stain your car.
Is there a way to clean off at the race?
There are several cleaning stations and they will be marked on the venue map. These stations are basically air blowers that will get a majority of the powder off of your body.
Will my phone or camera get ruined if I bring if I have it with me during the race or festival?
The best way to avoid getting color powder in your phone or camera is to put it in a plastic bag or to bring it in a protective case.
